(fonte)

We must act before possible on the poor eating habits of children, especially in large consumers of "junk food" (junk food).

Through an online survey of 30 schools in a large town in Britain, there were data on food consumption of 10,645 secondary school pupils aged between 12 and 16 years.
As a first given the 2.9% of the sample reported that they never eat regular meals and 17.2% reported daily consumption of junk food. Young people who reported eating no rules and consume junk food showed a significantly elevated risk of mental poverty (OR 5:41, 95% confidence interval 4.03 to 7.25 and 2.75, 95% confidence interval 1 0.99 to 3, 78) and poor physical health (OR 4.56, 95% confidence interval 3.56 to 5.85 and 2.00, 95% confidence interval 1.63 to 2.47).

Instead, a greater authority of parents was associated with healthier eating behaviors, and better mental and physical health, in comparison with disinterested parents feeding their children. The authors believe, therefore, that the corrective actions on the bad habits of the kids should also involve parents.  (read more)

Television Viewing and Risk
Prolonged television (TV) viewing is the most prevalent and pervasive sedentary behavior in industrialized countries and has been associated with morbidity and mortality. However, a systematic and quantitative assessment of published studies is not available.

ecause TV viewing is often accompanied by concurrent intake of foods45 and food advertising on TV may promote an unhealthy diet,39 it is possible that some of the associations reported herein are explained by diet. We attempted to explore whether these associations were mediated by diet and observed a small attenuation of effect estimates for type 2 diabetes but not for cardiovascular disease or all-cause mortality after pooling the available estimates with additional adjustment for dietary variables.

Because positive associations with TV viewing were observed in European, Australian, and US populations, who are subject to different amounts and types of food advertisements on TV, we do not believe that the associations are completely explained by changes in dietary behaviors induced by TV advertisement. However, we found that adjustment for BMI attenuated the association between TV viewing and the risk of type 2 diabetes. (read more)

Beach time, time to diet. Beware of do-it-yourself diets

Weight problems begin from an early age, and then appear in all their gravity in adolescence. There are estremamerte boys worried their line and others who are no longer moving, often because of the hours spent in front of the pc. It is important to change your eating habits and improve your lifestyle. Do-it-yourself diets pose a big risk and the pounds lost through these diets are taken over all. Diet means eating properly for life and not for a month and never abandon the aerobic-type exercise. Diets that include a high-protein intake (a famous is French) despite having among the merits some effectiveness in the short term, causes a particular medical condition called ketosis, which in the long run leads to irreparable damage to the liver and kidneys pledged to dispose of the waste products of consumption of proteins. The diet of vip or part-time diet it is a restricted diet put into practice only once or at most twice a week reduces the sacrifice to a minimum. Need a lifestyle, it makes no sense to eat so messy for six days and punish yourself the seventh.

(leggi tutto)

Obesity and diabetes, even bacteria contribute

To determine obesity and metabolic disorders at the base of diabetes are not only an unbalanced diet and an unhealthy lifestyle overall, but also the changes of bacterial flora. It also says Antonio Gasbarrini, a member of the European Association of Gastroenterology Endoscopy and Nutrition (Simranhz60), speaking at the International Conference ' Aidpit-Epita ' in Innsbruck. In the human gut, there are more than 1000  different bacterial species for a total weight of 1 kg and a half; all form the intestinal microbiota.According to Gasbarrini, "obese have intestinal microbiota in less diversity and altered metabolic pathways. For example in mice these changes seem to lead to an increase in calorie extraction from food ingested, stored energy reserves and insulin resistance. (read more)

Saturated fat dairy products, less dangerous for the heart
The current international food recommendations suggests to limit your consumption of saturated fats to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, there is no epidemiological evidence sufficiently clear to confirm a strong association between the consumption of this category of macronutrients and the incidence of cardiovascular events.
American researchers of the Department of epidemiology and human genetics at the University of Texas have examined the long-term cardiovascular effects resulting from consumption of saturated fats from different food sources.
The results showed that increased consumption of saturated fat content in dairy products is correlated with a lower chance of suffering cardiovascular events. On the other hand, the intake of saturated fats, mainly through the flesh entailed a higher risk.
According to the authors, the relationship between saturated fats and cardiovascular health may depend largely on the type of fatty acids that are specific to a particular food and other nutritional components in foods. (full text)

Un microchip sottopelle
per combattere l’obesità

A microchip under the skin
to combat obesity

Will control your appetite and help
to eat more slowly

Is the new frontier against the pounds developed by the researchers from Imperial College London with funding from the European Research Council. The microchip is connected to the vagus nerve, which regulates important functions, for example: the regulation of mood, sleep and, in fact, the appetite. The stimulation, therefore, of the vagus nerve through electrical impulses programmed already constitutes a real medical therapy experienced in cases of drug-resistant epilepsy and depression.
